The difference is:
1. The JOPAT ADVENTURE has a completely waterproof and airtight front compartment thanks to the TIZIP zipper. The front compartment is therefore also waterproof under water (IP67) and is therefore ideally suited for canoeing, for example. The JOPAT CLASSIC has a water-repellent YKK zipper. This is ideal for rain, for example.
2. The JOPAT ADVENTURE has subtle red stitching on the roll-top closure, the shoulder straps and the back padding. The JOPAT CLASSIC is completely black.
3. The JOPAT logo is larger and embossed vertically on the backpack on the JOPAT ADVENTURE. On the JOPAT CLASSIC, the logo is smaller and horizontal.
Please note:
Both backpacks have the same size & dimensions and are made of the same material. The main compartment is also completely waterproof in both versions.
If you want to be on the safe side, the JOPAT ADVENTURE also has a completely waterproof and secure front compartment. So you can quickly get to your cell phone or other things.
We started our crowdfunding campaign in January 2021 to be able to finance the minimum order quantity. We did that and were able to collect almost 200 pre-orders!
The JOPAT BACKPACK has also been available here in our online boutique since October 2021. We also have partner dealers in Bonn , Karlsruhe & Leipzig !
If your favorite store doesn't have our amazing backpack in their range, be sure to write to us - we'll take care of it! :)
Waterproof means that the material is so dense that no water can get through. Here you should stay dry, no matter how long you are outside in the rain and even if you go swimming with them. As you know it with watches, for example, the pressure acting on the material also plays a role. The pressure on the surface of a lake is different from that under water. Therefore, always make sure before use whether a material is sufficiently tight for your application.
If a material is water-repellent or water-resistant, then the water or dirt rolls off the surface and is prevented from penetrating into the interior. In the event of continuous or heavy rain, however, it cannot be ruled out that water will penetrate the interior over time.
The main compartments of our two backpack models are waterproof! Likewise the front compartment of the JOPAT ADVENTURE. The secret compartment is water-repellent.
For the JOPAT BACKPACK we use a high-quality, phthalate- and BPA-free TPU tarpaulin that has been tested according to the REACH standard. Inside is a fabric that is coated on both sides. This makes it tear-resistant, easy to clean and completely waterproof thanks to welded seams. It is also weather and decomposition resistant and protects against many chemical substances. We have been using the material on our prototypes (which we use every day) for almost three years and have not been able to find any defects such as breaks or the like.
The material is very resistant. Salt water is no problem for your JOPAT BACKPACK.
Since the roll top closure is closed with a metal buckle, you should take care to care for it regularly, e.g. with a suitable oil or grease. Especially the moving parts could corrode, even if we haven't found any defects in our buckles so far (we don't live in salt water regions though).
Due to the smooth surface, the backpack is easy to clean and dirt can be rinsed off well. Clean your JOPAT BACKPACK at 30 degrees Celsius by hand and a sponge in water - not in the washing machine, otherwise the zips could buckle! You can also use a light soapy solution to help with greasy stains. The tarpaulin is very insensitive.
To clean the MasterSeal zipper, TIZIP recommends using a light soapy solution and a fine brush. Do not use any solvents or aggressive cleaning agents, as these negatively affect the function of the zipper.
Dirt particles, especially between the individual teeth of the zippers, can impair the tightness and longevity. Therefore, you should maintain the closures regularly.
Make sure you give your backpack enough time to dry after its "shower".
We only use the highest quality components for our JOPAT BACKPACK. However, there are a few things you can do to give it extra care. The outer skin consists of a material coated on both sides. At the interfaces of the outer skin (at the top of the closure), the inner fabric is exposed. At this point, water can theoretically get into the interior of the tarpaulin and attack it over the long term. To avoid this, you should let the backpack dry after use so that there is no damage in the long term.
You can care for the metal buckle with a suitable oil or grease on the moving parts.
Store the backpack in a dry place, preferably without creases, as creases may remain visible for a period of time.
On the JOPAT ADVENTURE, the waterproof TIZIP zipper needs to be re-lubricated from time to time. We recommend using the original TIZIP lubricant, which we also offer in our online boutique. To do this, carefully apply the silicone grease in the area of the port (upper end) on the front and back, as well as on the inside at the transition to the zipper chain. Do not use lube along zipper chain. Then wipe off any excess lube to avoid staining. Detailed instructions are included.
TIZIP zippers should be stored completely closed, dry, clean and without bending.
A total of three zippers are incorporated into both the JOPAT ADVENTURE and the JOPAT CLASSIC.
On both models we use a standard YKK zipper for the inner compartment.
We use a water-repellent zipper (YKK) for the secret compartment on the back padding. For this reason, the secret compartment is not waterproof, but only water-repellent.
With the JOPAT CLASSIC , we also use a water-repellent YKK zip for the front pocket. Therefore, the front compartment is not completely waterproof, but only water-repellent. When rafting, you shouldn't store anything there that shouldn't get wet. Experience has shown that rain cannot penetrate through the water-repellent zip. In heavy rain, we recommend packing the contents in the main compartment to be on the safe side.
With the JOPAT ADVENTURE, we use the air and waterproof MasterSeal zipper from TIZIP, made in Germany, for the front pocket. The lock has a protection class of IP67. Thus, temporary submersion to a maximum of 1 meter water depth for a maximum of 30 minutes is no problem. You can capsize while rafting (which of course will never happen to you). Like the outer skin of the backpack, it is weather, oil and petrol resistant. It is suitable for use in fresh and salt water.
Use the slider gently. If it cannot be closed or opened, you should definitely check whether the bag is too full or whether something is stuck between the zipper teeth. Pulling them at an angle can have a negative effect on the zip fasteners (e.g. their tightness). Avoid overstretching the tails and do not forcefully pull the two sides of the zipper apart. Please take care not to fold or squeeze the zipper. Make sure the slider is properly seated in the port to ensure tightness. Especially with the TIZIP model, this requires a little bit of power. However, this is necessary so that the closure remains waterproof and does not open during use.
